MATT MAGEE

Matthew Magee was born in Paris, France in 1961 and raised in Texas. He obtained his MFA at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York in 1986, and his undergraduate degree from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas in 1983.

Magee has had 12 solo exhibitions since 1990 including recent shows at James Kelly Contemporary, Santa Fe (2014), Hiram Butler Gallery in Houston (2013/2010) and Knoedler Project Space, New York (2010). His work has been featured in over 100 group exhibitions throughout the US and Europe. He was Artist in Residence at the Tamarind Institute in February 2013.

Magee’s work is held in collections including the Museum of Fine Art, Houston; Goldman Sachs, New York; John Kidd and Associates, Houston; and The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, New York. He was the recipient of the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation Residency in Bethany, CT in 2007 and received a New York State Foundation for the Arts Grant (2002), and a Pollock-Krasner Award (1991).
