My Czech Grandmother: A Story is an artist’s book by Yvonne Kyriakides.

Autobiographical in nature, the book combines 31 black and white photographs with the artist’s own text. Interweaving a personal, familial history with the wider history of Europe in the last century, the book is a story of loss, fragmentation and the need to reclaim a cultural memory through the evidences of the present and the carefully retained details of an oral inheritance:

“My mother’s family memories were a repeating flow of ‘during the war’ stories ... narrated to me in urgent fragments of traumatic form ...”.
