Partwork 1995
Julia Farrer and Ian Tyson

EMH Arts was established in 1991 as the publishing imprint of the Eagle Gallery and in the last eighteen years has gained a reputation as one of Britain’s
most innovative publishers of limited edition artist’s books.

The Gallery has hosted many exhibitions featuring artist’s books with notable solo shows by Les Bicknell, Dale Devereux Barker, Liliane Lijn and Ian Tyson and book launches by Andrew Bick, Mandy Bonnell and Merlin James, amongst others.

The EMH Arts imprint has a strong commitment to developing links between contemporary artists and writers and has published works by artists such as
Basil Beattie, Paul Coldwell, Andrew Bick, Julia Farrer, Bruce McLean, Russell Mills and Terry Smith in collaboration with writers including Martin Bell,
Mel Gooding, Jo Shapcott, Matthew Sweeney and Judith Thurman.

The EMH Arts Publishing Scheme is a project to encourage artists and writers to work on long term collaborations which combine text and image
in book form. The Scheme is supported by subscriptions from private individuals, education
bodies and public collections and has enabled the imprint to commission a series of works which explore new territory for the artist’s book.

EMH Arts approaches the concept of the book as a 'site' or portable exhibition space in which artists can develop ideas from their wider practice. The
imprint works with typographers, master printers and binders to ensure that all aspects of production are of the highest quality in realising the artist’s
ideas.

Previous collaborations published under the imprint are And a year ago, I commemorated a missed encounter ... by Jane Bustin and Andrew Renton and LO by Julia Farrer and Judith Thurman.

Forthcoming collaborations under the EMH Arts Publishing Scheme:

Stephen Chambers and Marina Warner
Basil Beattie and Mel Gooding
Tom Hammick and Maureen Duffy, Peter Parker, Julian Bell
