"There is an inviting informality about Tim Long's collages and prints which reflect their non-hierarchical production. Culling through the image-bank of history, the artist does not discriminate. Images are drawn from both the High Renaissance and Victorian product catalogues. The High and the Low are married, East meets West, the photographic still confronts the cartoon character. In many hands such a working process can seem arbitrary and rootless, but in Long's case, the juxtapositions are believable, they have a rightness. Individual elements are given space, allowed to breathe, random combinations are unified through applied colour and pattern..."
