Works on Paper is an exhibition by four contemporary British painters of recent monoprints, paintings and digital works, loosely connected by their use of figurative imagery.
John Dewe Matthews shows a series of monotypes where drawn motifs of musicians playing are offset by abstract passages of intense colour. Tom Hammick shows a number of small scale individual monoprints, - gentle, evocative images of figures in landscape and aeroplanes. Charlotte Hodes uses a computer to collage intensely decorative images she prints as long ‘wallpapers’ and then cuts into, exposing further layers of visual pattern. Peter Rasmussen shows two large works from a series of images based on Renoir’s Rules of the Game. Paint and monoprint combine in his surfaces to give the work an intriguing quality of photographic stillness and yet, fluidity.
