ALTERED IMAGES

Altered Images brings together two of the Eagle Gallery's represented artists Wendy Anderson and Fieroza Doorsen with the painter Lino Mannocci in an exhibition which features images that are derived from 'found' starting points. The artists utilise the under-images of magazine pages or reproductions in individual ways and for different ends. Anderson speaks of the 'controlled destruction' of drawing over
the seductive surfaces of highly stylised fashion photographs. Mannocci overpaints postcards of Rensiassance paintings, creating re-readings of the originals. Doorsen excavates poignant scenarios from scratched intosurfaces of newsprint photographs.
Many of the works are small in scale and intimate in their handling.

Each plays with a sense of what is revealed and what is obscured, what we intuit of the original image and how the artist has responded with a system of mark making or material that changes the image into something else.
