BENDING SPACE
Andrew Bick, Julia Farrer, Kevin Finklea
22 June - 28 July 2006

Bending Space is an exhibition of wall sited works and site-specific drawings by three contemporary abstract artists who have developed the parameters of their practice into areas that at times converge with architecture and sculpture.

Andrew Bick's works play with elements of flat colour and mark, depth and surface, revealing the process of painting as a series of strategies or components within the visual puzzle of the whole. In Bending Space he has sited individual mixed media drawings in relation to the windows and fireplaces in the gallery in a witty response to the street outside and the archictectural elements within the space that diverge from the traditional 'white cube'.
Bick shows regularly in the UK and abroad and recently curator of The Kingston Turnpike, 2006 exhibition. He is represented by Hales Gallery, London.

Julia Farrer manipulates geometric shapes in two dimensions to give the illusion of three-dimensional space within the surfaces of shaped acrylic panels. Recent work has moved further into the territory of sculpture in Farrer's experimentations with the supports for the paintings and a series of works on paper which combine cut outs with layers of etching and chine collé.
Julia Farrer shows regularly with the Eagle Gallery and has exhibited in numerous exhibitions in the UK and USA. Her work is held in many major public collections including The Arts Council, England and the Metropolitan Museum, New York.

Kevin Finklea is an American painter whose recent minimal paintings combine the transparency of waxed acrylic supports or aluminium with reflective areas of highly coloured paint. Recent installations of his work have incorporated individual paintings sited within a grid of wall drawings - exposing the process of decisions and false starts made towards the finished objects.
Kevin Finklea is represented by Margaret Thatcher Projects, New York and Pentimenti Gallery, Philadelphia.

Prices range from £900 - £6500
