ON LANGUAGE AND MARKING TIME

[ezcol_1half]Matt Magee
2 December 2016 – 14 January 2017

The Eagle Gallery is delighted to present Matt Magee’s first UK solo exhibition, On Language and Marking Time. The exhibition features recent paintings and works on paper, shown alongside a large-scale, site-specific work from his ongoing series of Wall Graphemes.

Matt Magee’s abstract images are conceived through a playful engagement with data systems, and their visual representation. His paintings explore an eclectic range of graphic symbols and visually systemised information.

The Wall Graphemes are from a series of sequential investigations – employed small scale on paper and panel, and extended in large scale environmental paintings and sculptures. Graphemes are the smallest units in a given writing system (and include alphabetic letters, numerical digits and punctuation marks).
Magee’s most recent wall grapheme was completed in October this year, for his exhibition Memory and Reflection at the Tucson Museum of Art, Arizona.

The Gallery will be closed for Christmas from 24 December – 4 January 2017
