Birkin Haward

13 – 28 September 2018
Curated by the Beardsmore Gallery

Birkin Haward’s solo exhibition Outlook is a reflection on his recent travels to Japan, Poland, Jordan and the Caribbean. The recent paintings continue to express an interest in the conjunction of man-made structures with natural and industrial landscapes. The images are made with directness and economy, in acrylic on card, and often at a modest scale.

A practising architect, Haward trained at the Architectural Association and worked for many years with Norman Forster. In 1983 he formed a partnership with Joanna van Heyningen, which specialises in heritage, education and performance projects. Born in Ipswich to a family where drawing and painting were regular activities he has continued to make visual art through-out his career.

Outlook is his fourth collaboration with the Beardsmore Gallery and is presented as one in an occasional programme of guest curated exhibitions at the Eagle Gallery.
